Last day :(

Drinks mailer

Today is unfortunately my last day and I have been briefed on a new project. Although I won’t have time to see it through I have been asked to come up with some initial ideas for it. Geronimo will be sending out a drinks mailer to prospective clients, so need a creative, fun way to engage drinks companies, making them see that we are experienced within the subject of drinks and that we could help improve their business.

It was set up into two categories; spirits and beers (as both have very different target audiences). I presented my idea to a few of the team today and they seemed really happy and excited with what I had come up with, and wanted me to develop some ideas in particular further. But sadly I only have another half an hour here, so that may be slightly ambitious and unachievable. However I will keep thinking this weekend and have a little catch up at the Christmas Party (before we start drinking of course.)

Thanks for putting up with me again!

Much love,

Back after 2 years :D

Internship starting on the 14th November

To be completely honest the idea of writing a small blog was first mentioned on day 1…however I have been caught up on projects, designs and deadlines so I have only just got round to starting it (and it is now the last day of November!)

Some projects I have been involved in so far are:

  • Direct Line inserts and website images
  • Sourcing images, themes and colour schemes for the next issue of Spark
  • Designs for the tote bag that will be sent out to all existing customers
  • Designing the invite for the Geronimo Christmas Party 2011
  • Finding images for the ‘About’ page on the new Website
  • Designing a Vinyl for the empty right wall and mocking up a previous idea for the far wall
  • Learning how to use Cinema 4D

So now you can see why I have only just got round to writing it up!

Direct Line

For the Direct Line pieces it was simply a case of making sure the text and images where laid out in the best, most readable way possible. These live briefs give me an opportunity to work to specific, strict outlines. The branding has already been created, so I was referring back to their stylebook and making sure that any new pieces for Direct Line matched up to this style.

Spark

The new edition of Spark is soon to be sent out, and with the focus decided I needed to find images that would represent this topic. I looked into past editions of Spark so that I would keep to their desired style, then set about finding images that would work on each page. Here are a few of my favorite ones:

The bee image represents the concept of 'Community' and the cows nose is for a page on 'Guinness'.

I regards to working further on Spark, I would absolutely love to see it through to print. However I am waiting for the text to be finalized so can not carry on putting it together until this has been decided.

I came up with a few ideas for the packaging when I thought that the title would be ‘Online Oxygen’, but it has since been changed so I will have to get thinking again!

The idea was that the tactile packaging would engage all senses and quickly get over the title to

the reader. The air-tight packaging would have to be burst open to for the reader to find out what was inside.

I came up with a design for the tote bag but another design was decided on. I can see now that it may have been too fashion orientated and not quite bold enough for the purpose.

Christmas Invite

Even though I am only here for a few weeks I have been fortunate enough to be invited to the Geronimo Christmas party! There will be lots of turkey, pigs in blankets, Christmas cake, lots and lots of alcohol, and lots and lots and lots of festivity!!I say this not because I am a crazy, Christmas-obsessed individual, but because the theme for this years party is ‘Christmas Number 1s’. So I am expecting it to be a night of over excited spice girls, drunken Mr Blobbys and Michael Jacksons waiting longingly underneath the mistletoe. So for this reason I decided that a collage would be best to represent this and to be sent out as an invite. Under a tight deadline I enlisted the help of Jamie to put it together.

Geronimo Website

Underneath the text on the ‘About us’ page will be a slideshow of images. These images needed to show how the world has changed and to show this in one single, powerful shot. It was whittled down to 6 images, but I think my favorite image for this purpose is this:

Another project I was given was to help with the ‘Spark’ page. I had to compile, resize and put together screen-grabs that would give the reader an example of what goes in to each edition.

Vinyl

One exciting project that I was asked to help with was in finding something that would fill the right side of the office. The left side has been beautifully designed, with themed idea rooms and a fully functioning and filled sweet shop…so the white right hand side looks even more naked in comparison. As hardworking as the Geronimo team are…they do like to muck around and act like big kids as soon as the work is done. This was the main inspiration for the wall design. A mock up is shown below, along with a few of my practice illustrations.

As the small far wall is also slightly nude, Wayne filled me in on one of his ideas for filling it, and I mocked up what it would look like, to see whether he wanted to take this idea further.

Cinema 4D

As the world is moving along at a scarily fast pace, I have realized that I have some catching up to do. Luckily Tom is far more technology cool than me, so has agreed to give a few others and me some Cinema 4D tutorials. I had my first one last week and have the next one today. But I have been set some homework to do before the next tutorial, and as I thought that Friday was going to be my last day, I have not yet completed it. So I will stop blogging now and get busy attempting to make some type slightly 4 dimensional…

ive made first two mock ups of the app today
got to think of lots of creative eco names that drivers would get dependent on their mileage

A new week

I have to apologise for the lack of posting for the past two days, which is why im writing this morning!
yesterday was fun, got to sit in with the creatives and see how they start off briefs.
development of Seat is going well, im working round the posters to make a big campaign and tie in everything and here are the posters out and about

more development of Seat ideas and a meeting to show off what i have done this week. I selected my favourite pow wow logos and printed them off. I have also tried to expand my Seat idea, but the majority of the day was spent at the pub (not complaining!)

Day threee

I have spent the whole day developing an idea for promoting Seat with their range of environmentally friendly cars. it may not seem like much but this whole idea has come from brainstorming allllllllll morning and there were many many ideas!
i am playing with the idea of having natural a natural material for each of the four cars in he Seat range. after looking round at different and unusual ways to display a poster i have decided to put each material inside the displays in the busstops with a graphic image of the car.
this is a initial mock up, i plan to do much more work to it and also display it on the busstops

end of day twoo

I sat in a few meetings today all focused around Seat, lots and lots of designs!
I have started on a promotional stunt for Geronimo and its slowly getting there, a mock up for it is taking longer than i first thought! Hopefully once its done it will be worth it!

some fun stuff

When Adrian told me to look round for anvironmental stuff for the Seat posters I found this environmental awareness thing...(i wouldn't no what to call it? a poster? campaign?) well here it is, something I found interesting!

My First Day!

Oh she's not used to the early starts! I'll get the hang of it though. My first day was fun I got stuck straight into some logo designs for Pow Wow and then dabbled in some designs for Seat, which by the end of the day I did find challenging! Lets hope this morning I can come up with something grrreat.

Last day :(

Friday

I still can not believe that it has been a week, it has gone unbelievably fast! I still have loads that I want to work on and finish but unfortunately I have to go back to uni on Monday!

Today I have been carrying on with my icon designs, I have been simplifying them and making them orange to link in with the rest of the website. These are the images that I created based on the bottom end of pens...

and here is what they would look like on the website:

I also tried it out with the top end of the pens...

and this is what they would look like on the website:

If I were to use the top end of the pens, then the writing bellow it could be written as though coming out of the pens. Unfortunately I only have 10 minutes left until the end of the day so do not have enough time to carry on working on these. I would love to of tried using a white rather than a black on these images, as this may make them seem a little simpler and may work better on the website. Hopefully someone will carry on working on these images!

I have had a lovely week, ending with a nice couple of drinks with everyone in the pub. I hope to be writing again on here soon!

Thursday

Today I was given a completly new task! Becky told me that they intend to redesign the old Geronimo website and that they needed my help with the icons that were going to be on it. I was shown the designs that they had already created, but were unhappy with, then was told to either work on the old ones or create completly new ones. Initially I worked on the old ones, but then decided to try a few of my own! It was a really exciting brief and I am still busy working on it!

Instead of aiming to rework icons that are recognised and used worldwide, I have come up with a completly new idea. I knew that if I was redesigning old ones I could spend weeks an weeks on them, then decide that the origional ones werebetter! I have not shown her my idea yet, but here are my drawings so far.

I have not decided whether to use the top or bottom of the pens yet, but the idea behind them was to use different types of pen to represent each title. As pens can be broken down into many different categories and types, so more can be added if needs be, also it is a subject matter that relates to all jobs roles at Geronimo.

I then tried using the pen that was drawn to redraw the images...

These need some more work on so I will carry on with the project in the morning!

Snow day

Wednesday

Unfortunatly yesterday was a snow day, which most people loved, but it meant one day less of work experience for me :(
